6-1 Box Barn Fire
By Captain Lawson Sauser
August 14, 2023
At approximately 15:50 hours Washington County ECC pre alerted Box 6-1 in the area of 8267 Old National Pike for a barn fire. Washington advised they had multiple callers reporting 100x100 barn with fire throughout. While responding aboard Truck 6, Lt.6(O’Connor) advised he had a header and requested the Tanker Task Force and the Safety assignment. At that point ET-8 (Capt.Sauser) requested to add on for additional manpower. Engine 8-1 (running as e61) arrived on scene to find a 30x40 two story barn with fire showing. Sharpsburg Chief 1 arrived on scene and established command and had all units stage until a better access route was located. ET-8 arrived on scene and was subsequently assigned the first due position on side alpha due to E81(61) being located in a field to the rear of the barn. Crews stretched several lines off of ET-8 while Sharpsburg Tanker 1 nursed the rural water dump site set up at the end of the driveway. Crews worked quickly and knocked the bulk of the fire. The assignment was held for around 2 hours for overhaul and removal of several burning round bales.
